Tails 7.2 released
Tails 7.2 is now available for download. One nice change involves the Tor Browser integration; it’s been updated to use version 15.0.1, which pulls features directly from Firefox 140. For users managing lots of tabs simultaneously, the update could mean better organization through vertical tabs and tab groups.
The address bar in Tails has also had some polishing done, particularly the search function, making it a bit easier to actually locate things you're searching for now. On another note, Thunderbird has been bumped up to version 140.4.0, adding its enhancements and refinements. And while not directly part of Tails itself, the Linux kernel update included is now based on version 6.12.57.
Power users might notice something else: Root Console access isn't available inside the OS anymore. If you need a root prompt, the way to get it now involves running a simple command from your regular user console; just type sudo -i. The goal here seems to be to boost system security and prevent accidental admin mistakes.
There's also an adjustment for notifications: "Don't ask again" prompts will only appear after the system clock has successfully synced. This likely aims to stop potential problems down the line if the clock gets out of whammy.
Tails 7.2 tackles some specific issues. One relates to Thunderbird itself: connections it used to make to Mozilla's telemetry services have been shut off entirely, which is another step towards bolstering user privacy and keeping things secure within Tails' environment. You can usually obtain the full details explaining these changes in the official changelog. The new release can be downloaded from the download page.
