A new version of SparkyLinux, codenamed "Tiamat," has been released with updated packages from Debian and Sparky testing repositories. This release features an upgraded Linux kernel (6.16.7) and an updated Calamares installer that supports encrypted disk installations. The latest version includes newer versions of Firefox and GCC, as well as replaced news aggregators for KDE and LXQt users. SparkyLinux 2025.09 is available in six variants, including LXQt, KDE Plasma, MATE, Xfce, MinimalGUI, and MinimalCLI.

A new version of SparkyLinux, codenamed "Tiamat," has been released with updated ISO images based on Debian's testing branch, known as "Forky." This semi-rolling release incorporates the latest package updates from both Debian and Sparky testing repositories up to September 14th, 2025.

A significant upgrade in this version is the introduction of Linux kernel 6.16.7, along with alternative kernels 6.12.47-LTS and 6.6.105-LTS available through the Sparky repositories. The Calamares installer has also been updated to version 3.4.0, which now supports encrypted disk installations, a feature previously unavailable in this release.

In terms of software applications, Firefox has been upgraded to version 128.14.0-ESR, with an even newer version (143.0) available through Sparky repositories. Additionally, the default news aggregators have been replaced for KDE and LXQt users: Akregator will now handle RSS feeds in place of QuiteRSS, while Liferea has taken over from QuiteRSS for LXQt.

Another key change is the inclusion of GCC 15, with its predecessor, GCC 14 having been removed. All Sparky graphical components have been updated to their testing versions (tiamat).

It's worth noting that installation on UEFI machines requires an active internet connection and can be accomplished efficiently using the Calamares installer, accessible through a menu icon labeled "Sparky Installer." For older systems with 64-bit processors and BIOS, users are advised to utilize the CLI installer by executing 'sudo sparky-installer.'

This release of SparkyLinux 2025.09 is offered in multiple variants: LXQt, KDE Plasma, MATE, Xfce, MinimalGUI (utilizing Openbox), and MinimalCLI (available in text mode).
