Samba 4.21.8 Now Available
The Samba development team has announced the release of Samba 4.21.8, a stable version that builds upon the previous releases in the 4.21 series.
About Samba
Samba is an open-source implementation of the SMB and Active Directory protocols for Linux and UNIX-like systems, making it an essential tool for providing secure, stable, and fast file and print services to clients using these protocols. It supports various cluster file systems and enables cloud platform-as-a-service (PaaS) providers, software-defined storage (SDS) solutions, high-performance computing (HPC) applications, and enterprise-grade network attached storage (NAS) to leverage the latest security and SMB capabilities.
Key Features
Samba's robust design allows it to seamlessly integrate Linux/Unix servers and desktops into Active Directory environments. It can function as an Active Directory Domain Controller or a member server, providing users with flexibility and scalability.
What's New in Samba 4.21.8?
This latest release tackles several critical issues reported since the previous version (4.21.7). The following list highlights some of the key bug fixes:
- Improved Netlogon functionality: Fixes for netr_LogonSamLogonEx, which was returning NR_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED with SysvolReady=0.
- Kinit command issue resolved: A missing cache error that occurred when using the kinit command has been fixed.
- Domain controller discovery and leader broadcast: Resolves an issue where delayed leader broadcast could block ctdb forever.
- Active Directory domain group listing: The 'net ads group' command now correctly lists domain groups.
- Shadow copy conflict with virusfilter: Fixes a conflict between the shadow_copy2 module and virusfilter (action quarantine).
- Group Policy Object link handling: Enhances handling of empty GPO links.
- SMB ACL inheritance for files created: Resolves an issue where SMB ACL inheritance did not work for files created.
