The new version includes improved support for various operating systems such as Linux Mint 22.1, ParrotSec, FreeDOS 1.4, and PCLinuxOS, making it easier to set up and run virtual machines. Under the hood, QuickEMU now checks for PipeWire or PulseAudio before defaulting to ALSA and can function even if the curl config is incorrect, resulting in a more robust overall experience. The release also includes documentation updates, smaller 4M qcow2 image support, and improved CPU config handling.

QuickEMU 4.9.8 released

QuickEMU 4.9.8, a tool for swiftly creating and running optimized virtual machines from the terminal on Linux and macOS systems, has been released.  It includes several doc regenerations to stay current with the newest features.

For download functionality, Chinese Windows ISOs work now after some fixes, and QuickGet can correctly identify which macOS version it needs to grab for you. Linux Mint 22.1 users will find support added too, making virtual machines from this distro easy peasy.

Under the hood, QuickEMU also checks for PipeWire or PulseAudio before defaulting to ALSA if those are missing. This is a step toward being more robust overall. A recent update ensures it can function even if the curl config goes sideways.

There have been several other fixes aimed at smoothing out the user experience. Setting up public directories no longer causes crashes, and ParrotSec VM creation runs fine now thanks to some patches. Secure Boot handling for Linux guests has also been improved recently.

FreeDOS 1.4 and PCLinuxOS get added support as well.

QuickEMU keeps running smoothly with newer versions of Nix and Flake in its background too. It's worth mentioning that the documentation was refreshed to list these new options properly.

Finally, a few other small issues got sorted out alongside the ability to use smaller 4M qcow2 images for virtual machines. CPU config handling is also slightly better now, so you can pin them if needed for performance tweaks.
