OBS Studio 32.0.0 released
OBS Studio 32.0.0 has been released, boasting significant updates and improvements to its functionality. This software is designed for capturing, compositing, encoding, recording, and streaming video content with unparalleled efficiency.
One of the major highlights in this release is the introduction of a basic plugin manager, which allows users to easily manage their plugins. Additionally, an opt-in feature has been added that enables automatic crash log upload on Windows and macOS platforms, which allows developers to identify and rectify issues.
The software also features enhanced audio capabilities with Voice Activity Detection (VAD) integrated into NVIDIA RTX Audio Effects. This improvement significantly enhances noise suppression for speech, ensuring a high-quality audio experience. Furthermore, several optimizations have been made to NVIDIA Effects, resulting in faster processing times and reduced latency.
For Apple Silicon Macs, an experimental Metal renderer has been added, promising improved performance and efficiency. Moreover, Hybrid MOV support has been integrated into the software, enabling users to create widely supported HEVC/H.264 + PCM audio options across all platforms. This feature also brings ProRes support on macOS and a more versatile output format for all platforms.
In terms of changes, OBS Studio will no longer load plugins built for newer releases to prevent potential compatibility issues. Custom OBS widgets have been added in preparation for larger UI updates, while preparations have been made for the Metal renderer. The default bitrate has been changed from 2500 to 6000 Kbps, and hybrid MP4/MOV containers are now set as the default output format.
To further improve performance and user experience, several bug fixes have been implemented. These include resolving crashes on macOS when moving or resizing the OBS window, fixing issues with SRT reconnections, and addressing memory leaks when attempting to output Hybrid MP4 to non-writable locations.
Additionally, potential problems such as multiview becoming blank, incorrect color range property settings for the AMD AV1 encoder, and HEVC frame priority not being set correctly have been addressed. Furthermore, an issue resulting in increased latency after temporary encoder stalls has been resolved, ensuring smoother playback experiences.
