MariaDB 11.8.5 released
MariaDB 11.8.5 has landed, and it's definitely worth taking a look at if you're running MariaDB Community Server on version 11.8.4. The previous release encountered some issues, so it would be advisable to update promptly.
The main reason for this new release is a specific bug affecting MyISAM and Aria tables under certain conditions. If you use the DELETE statement with a WHERE clause on these tables and compare an indexed column (that isn't unique) to a literal value, be cautious; sometimes the execution plan selects "range" mode, which can result in only some of the rows being deleted.
This bug could mean lost data if MariaDB is handling your important MyISAM or Aria tables this way. Partial deletions are a serious issue that you should be aware of. The good news? If you use InnoDB, you don't need to worry; it doesn't affect those tables.
Digging into the release notes provides more details on what changed in 11.8.5. Looking specifically at the changelog shows this version incorporates fixes from MariaDB 11.4.9 too, which means it builds nicely upon past improvements made to the system.
And crucially, there's a specific fix (MDEV-38068) right there in 11.8.5 that directly addresses the issue of partial data deletion for MyISAM and Aria tables. So if you're running into those issues with your affected tables, upgrading should clear things up fast.
