LACT 0.8.3 released
LACT 0.8.3, a new version of the powerful Linux-based GPU control application, has finally made its way out there. This release prioritizes practical improvements for existing users over being overly exciting or pushing specific marketing points. The developers concentrated on two main things: nailing down the bugs that were annoying people and adding a couple of helpful features, especially for those using AMD graphics cards.
For AMD GPU fans, there's good news. This update adds more metrics to track. Consider this: you now have access to readings from additional temperature sensors and voltage data points that were not automatically displayed before. These are easy to find; they're just disabled by default in the graphs window. Activating them usually takes only a couple of clicks, offering everyone a bit more granular insight into their system's performance.
They also improved how LACT interacts with the 'gamemode' tool. It now handles multiple separate gamemode daemons running on the same computer much better. That means it works smoothly even if different users have their own isolated gaming profiles or settings, with no conflicts to worry about.
On the fixing side, several long-standing issues got addressed. The profile watcher sometimes had trouble reloading itself in the past; that should be smoother now. Another thing: how LACT is described by systemd services has been updated to match its actual name more accurately. And they tightened up something else delivery-related, setting a sensible default for the stats polling interval and making sure existing installs don't lag behind by forcing them into an acceptable range.
Looking at the full list of changes provides you a sense of how much work went into this update. There were many small but important tweaks: listening to gamemode events more carefully, getting OpenCL device matching just right, and even rounding fan curve values for editing precision. Other activities included updating specs and translations; LACT now has polished versions in several languages, managed through Weblate.
In short, it's a solid update that should feel familiar yet better for users already enjoying the app.
