Krita 5.2.15 released
Krita's newest release (5.2.15) hit download today. While it sounds like minor tweaks compared to feature updates, this particular one zeroes in on stability and smoother operation for users on the Xiaomi Pad.
Crashes using the smudge brush are out. That specific fix is a welcome relief for many artists who rely heavily on that tool. The team also integrated Gmic 3.6.4.1 into Krita's codebase, bringing its filters up to date within the development branch context of version 5.2.15.
Beyond that brush crash, other stability bumps include fixes related to liquefying and undoing actions without triggering instability. There's also a fix for those pesky embedded profile errors causing crashes elsewhere, plus an improved method for loading TIFF files using JPEG compression, likely making things faster or smoother in certain scenarios.
To specifically help smooth the experience on devices like the Xiaomi Pad, developers made several key changes. SVG gradients now force premultiplied alpha mode operation as a necessary workaround for compatibility. This isn't strictly following the spec but keeps things running properly there. Also fixed were issues with arrow keys handling shortcuts and timeline navigation; small controls often get overlooked until they bug.
The user interface got some breathing room too in this version, 5.2.15. Touch events aren't compressed anymore when matched to shortcuts; three-finger taps now register as end actions instead of accidental cancels (or whatever that meant). And rotation jitter around zero was squashed for a cleaner feel there.
Speaking of the Xiaomi Pad, specific adjustments tackled stylus button quirks and curve handling bugs. Page up/down actions should be more reliable too, and window flickering during use has been dialed back.
Finally, some internal build settings were tweaked away from adding unnecessary debug stuff, another quiet but potentially important stability boost integrated into Krita 5.2.15.
