KDE Plasma 6.5.4 released
KDE has just released a new bugfix update for KDE Plasma 6, versioned 6.5.4. This update marks the third installment in the Plasma 6.5 series, which was initially rolled out in October with various feature refinements and new modules to enhance the overall desktop experience.
This latest batch incorporates contributions from developers and testers over three weeks, focusing on essential fixes spread across numerous components. Let's dive into some specifics: Bluedevil had an issue with its help link sorted out; Kcm fixed problems where window pairings didn't open correctly in plasma settings. Then there's Breeze, which got tweaks for better integration with QQC2 styles, mainly adjusting menu margins and item spacing.
The Discover module also saw action, tackling issues with managing Flatpak installations, simplifying some notifiers, and resolving a specific issue with flatpaktest on AARCH64 systems. Headless updates were optimized too, ensuring things work smoothly even without a display server. And importantly, the application action style used on mobile devices is now consistent with that of regular desktops.
Back-end stuff like kpipewire was improved; PipewireSourceItem handles explicit invalidation better. KScreen needed its installation process updated to include .desktop files pointing to PROGRAMS, making sure it's executable properly. This update also adds several fixes for KWin, covering input method handling and computed painted areas on high-DPI screens.
Another specific win in KWin: The A11yKeyboardMonitor was corrected so it doesn't flood you with key events during focus changes anymore. Other tweaks include adding tests for the A11yKeyboardManager itself, clamping tablet and touch coordinates to target outputs, ignoring XCB_FOCUS_OUT events by default (good call!), and supporting xrandr emulation.
Plasma Mobile has addressed issues such as panel sizing bugs, race conditions, and application list sorting. The Plasma Network Manager (plasma-nm) has implemented an enhanced solution for explicit HTML entity escape, which is a valuable improvement. And back with Plasma Workspace: logic around geometry changes in shell/panelview was fixed, plus a build issue was addressed following a problematic backport.
Meanwhile, libksysguard's Colorgrid now properly uses sensor colors, and libplasma has stamped out potential memory leaks found in AppletQuickItem. For Plasma Desktop users experiencing issues with tablet devices, configuration options have been improved. Fixes have also improved the Appium tests, particularly the taskmanager_visiblelabeltest and desktoptest.
Finally, other KDE components like powerdevil (fixed critical notification handling), print-manager (addressed CUPS unknown level checking), and xdg-desktop-portal-kde (improved the handling of remote desktop cursor modes) all got some attention. Plus minor nips for things like clipboard data and application list sorting, plus better system tray functionality.
Overall, this latest bugfix update demonstrates the collaborative efforts of KDE's community in delivering a stable and feature-rich experience for its users.
