Godot 4.6 RC 1 released
Godot 4.6 has reached its Release Candidate milestone, which marks an important move forward in development. The team responsible for this open-source game engine has been diligently addressing bugs and enhancing overall performance.
You might notice some big wins for developers working with animations. The team has finally resolved issues within the Skeleton3D edit mode, identified as GH-114752. Hopefully, this update makes animation work smoother, like a real breath of fresh air, when building your games.
The engine's core isn't left untouched either. There was one tricky problem about automatically releasing static GDTypes that could crop up at shutdown time (GH-114790).
GDScript users might also spot something familiar. A bug existed in which the editor would occasionally clean up scripts unnecessarily; this issue is now addressed by GH-114801. Less script hassle for everyone writing code!
Scene editing could use another tweak as well, covered by GH-114200. CanvasItems are now automatically resampled to make things run better in complex projects and keep your visual assets manageable without fuss.
The developers even managed to resolve an annoying RC-specific snag: importing certain PNG files into the web-based editor used to cause a freeze, but that's been ironed out (GH-114410). Much smoother workflow!
HttpRequest behavior has improved too. It now properly follows redirects like 301 and 302 in line with web standards; this correction for GH-91199 gets you away from potential headaches when dealing with links.
Networking under the hood has seen some adjustments, most notably a better way to parse IP addresses and handle IPv6 correctly (GH-114827). And if you've worked on Android before launching Godot 4.6, know this: there's been a fix for a nasty ANR bug related to shutting down the engine (GH-114207). No more hanging Androids!
Finally, rendering issues with Mali GPUs have been nipped in the bud too, especially those caused by subpasses and MSAA being used together (GH-114785). Hopefully, this makes things look better on certain mobile devices.
