Godot 4.5.1 RC 1 is a significant update focused on addressing regressions from version 4.5, including timely fixes to ensure a smooth upgrade to the new version

Godot 4.5.1 RC 1 released

Thaddeus Crews has announced the first release candidate for Godot 4.5.1. This release candidate addresses newly identified regressions found in the 4.5 version and includes risk-assessed fixes that were previously postponed. Its primary aim is to ensure a seamless upgrade to version 4.5.1 by resolving any issues that may have emerged since the release of 4.5-stable.

The accompanying documentation highlights the importance of community testing to independently verify these fixes, distinct from the enhancements planned for Godot 4.6, which is currently in development. Additionally, it encourages financial support for the initiative, which depends on both volunteer contributions and a small compensated team, stressing that such backing enables focused development efforts.

This release features contributions from 31 developers and introduces a total of 33 enhancements and bug fixes. Notable improvements include better audio handling for short streams, updates to Windows build processes, and optimizations in core functionalities such as Quaternion initialization and memory management during array resizing. The documentation has also been improved, offering clearer explanations regarding typed dictionaries, CharacterBody velocity multiplications, and Light3D’s interactions with other visual features.

On the editor side, there are refinements to Diagonal Mode and accessibility improvements within the BlendSpace2D editor. Export processes have been streamlined, particularly for Android, and issues with Metal compiler version detection have been addressed. Other fixes include corrections to GDExtension documentation, improved icon alignment for right-to-left GUI layouts, and increased tolerance for rasterization inaccuracies in Navigation 2D. Physics engine bugs related to CCD bodies and manifolds have been resolved, and further adjustments enhance stability and performance across platforms such as X11, DirectX, and OpenXR.

This comprehensive update underscores the community’s dedication to improving Godot while new features for future versions are in progress. Users are encouraged to download and test the release candidate to contribute to the ongoing quality assurance process.
