Fractal 13 Beta released
The Matrix messaging app, Fractal, has just released a beta of version 13. As a GNOME application written in Rust, Fractal's user interface is optimized for seamless collaboration within large groups, such as free software projects, and effortlessly adapts to any screen size. This latest beta release offers an array of impressive features that enhance the overall messaging experience. For instance, users can easily discover and join discussions on various topics or engage in private conversations with fellow Matrix users while ensuring the utmost security through end-to-end encryption. Moreover, Fractal allows its users to send richly formatted messages, files, and even their current location.
The app also provides a range of advanced features, including the ability to reply to specific messages, react with emojis, edit or remove messages as needed, view images directly within conversations, play audio and video without having to leave the conversation, and see which messages have been read by other users along with who is currently typing.
Another significant aspect of Fractal 13.beta is its support for logging into multiple accounts at once, making it easier for users to manage their various Matrix accounts. This release provides an excellent chance to explore the exciting new features slated for the upcoming version of Fractal.
One of the standout improvements in this beta release is the introduction of a brand-new audio player that loads files lazily and displays the audio stream as a seekable waveform. Additionally, clicking on the avatar of a message's sender now directly opens their user profile instead of displaying a context menu, resulting in a more streamlined user experience.
Furthermore, Fractal 13 has made significant strides in its visual design by adopting a GNOME document and using monospace fonts for messages. The app's UI definitions have also been largely ported to Blueprint, enhancing the overall aesthetic and usability of the application.
As with any beta release, there may be a slight risk of regressions; however, this version should still be mostly stable. If all goes according to plan, the next step would be the release candidate. For users who are eager to contribute to Fractal's development, this is an ideal opportunity to test out the new features and help fix any issues that may arise.
