Bazaar 0.6.2 released
New updates have been released for Bazaar, an innovative app store designed specifically for Flatpaks. The latest versions, 0.6.1 and 0.6.2, come with a slew of improvements aimed at enhancing user experience.
The team behind it has landed several helpful tweaks in this latest release, aiming to make things smoother for everyone using the app. One big change involves how often Bazaar saves information locally on your device's hard drive. Before, it tended to write data frequently, which could sometimes cause problems or slowdowns. Now, they've bumped that refresh frequency up from once an hour to once a day.
There's another practical option too: when you uninstall an app via Bazaar, the software is smarter about letting you delete any extra application files associated with it along the way – good for cleaning things up.
They haven't just focused on performance, though. The user interface gets its share of attention in version 0.6.2. That visual carousel element has been given a gentle touch-up, now featuring a soft colored tint that gives it a bit more personality without being distracting. And if you ever encountered tricky license situations before (maybe because Flathub's API felt finicky), those details should feel less confusing now.
Beyond UI tweaks and core behavior fixes, Bazaar's developers have also been busy refining other aspects. This release includes updated translations for users in Japan (ja locale), Brazilian Portuguese (pt_BR), Spanish software terms, Ukrainian, and Russian, making sure more people can interact with the app smoothly regardless of their language settings.
Crucially, there are usability improvements inside Bazaar itself, especially concerning its Updates feature. The work by Alexander Vanhee makes this part of things feel cleaner and easier to understand than before.
Speaking of updates, they've also slightly improved the entire process. Better feedback tells you what's happening during the update check or installation, with less waiting around for something mysterious to finish.
Another welcome bit comes from accessibility tweaks: they've fixed some high-contrast displays, hopefully making things clearer for users who rely on specific visual settings due to sight-related challenges. Plus, a French md file has been added, expanding Bazaar's support even further in that language community.
A major feature addition is the quick release function. This lets you manually trigger an update within Bazaar if Flathub, which hosts Bazaar, seems slow or unresponsive via its usual API method. It essentially gives you a way to force things up-to-date yourself, bypassing potential delays caused by external factors like timeouts from Flathub's servers.
So, those looking for the latest changes can grab it directly as a Flatpak update through your standard app stores (usually just updating Bazaar) or head over to Flathub if you installed it elsewhere. Check out the GitHub page below for the complete change log and source code:
Release Bazaar 0.6.2
Quick release to allow manual refresh if flathub is being flaky, thus preventing the user from getting stuck if the flathub repos work but the http API times out.
