Infoworld reports that Linuxcare rolled out new software that helps larger shops configure and update large-scale Linux deployments.

"The San Francisco company's Levanta package is designed to allow administrators to reduce the time it takes to deploy Linux on host systems, as well as allowing them to double the number of Linux servers from a single console that they can configure and update."

Infoworld reports that IBM names small business customers using Linux with its hardware and software:

"Ahead of the Linuxworld Conference and Expo, which begins Tuesday in San Francisco, IBM Corp. is seeding the field with a collection of announcements that illustrate its momentum behind the open-source operating system. The company detailed Thursday new customers that have chosen to use Linux with its hardware and software. Nine customers being highlighted bring IBM's tally of Linux followers to more than 4,600, the company said."

CNET News reports that Sun Microsystems introducing their new Linux based blade servers later this month:

"Santa Clara, Calif.-based Sun specializes in servers, higher-end networked machines that run 24 hours a day handling chores such as delivering e-mail or recording credit card charges. While the small blade servers are an extension of Sun's existing product line, the incorporation of Linux will be the first time Sun has backed another operating system besides its own Solaris version of Unix.

Sun Chief Executive Scott McNealy is scheduled to announce Sun's blade servers on Aug. 12 in San Francisco and its Linux products Aug. 13 in the opening keynote of the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo, also in San Francisco, according to an advisory and a Sun representative."

ZDNet reports that Veritas expands their Linux software line with "clustering" software:

Veritas in January released its first Linux products for storage operations, such as backing up data. Now the company has released "clustering" software, which lets IT managers join several servers together so one can take over if another fails. It also released network-attached storage software, which turns a server into a special-purpose storage system.
