Anyone had luck with KDE 3.1.4 and RH9?

OK so I'm fairly new to this whole open-source Linux deal and recently aquired RedHat 9. Dual boots quite well with Windows XP so I was impressed in that aspect. What I want to do now is upgrade my default load of KDE to the newest version 3.

hey there! I have one basic question. I use Suse 8. 2 Prof. . with KDE. . So if I want to change a file in e. g. etc/x11 or somewhere where I need administration rights (root), how do I get those without logging out and again log in as a root? also opening a console and typing in the su command doesn't help me.

xine multi region de coding?

will my dvd player (LG 8160B) reproduce us dvd (region code 1) I am in europe (region code 2). I remenber that power dvd or maybe win dvd had an option to switch region codes a maximum of five times.

When i try to edit my config file using this command(under failsafe without GUI) vi /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 i get this screen; ~ < this tilde sign from top to bottm of the screen ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ /etc/X11/XF86config-4 0,0-1 all I can't work with this.

Stranger Konqueror problem

Hi everyone I use Konqueror as a file manager and I tried changing the view mode to Icon View. Now it asks me for my root password, starts up and immediately shuts down before I can even change the view mode.

I downloaded and installed eclipse 2. 1. When I run eclipse, I get the following message. /eclipse error while loading shared libraries. /eclipse undefined symbol _XmStrings Does anyone know what's going on here? THanks.

i downloaded the. sh. bin of Unrealtournament 2003 and for the life of me cannot get it to run. It keeps opening in a text editor so it won't let me run it. i also hearf about typing in a command or something but i can't figure out where.

mp3 to wav application

Does anybody know of a cd burning or other aplication that can convert mp3 to wav so that they can be burned to a disk, and listened to on any cd player. kinda like what easy cd creator can do. I have found a script but it can only do one file at a time which is a bit of a drag.

How do I get the new Mozilla download to run. I downloaded YUM and installed it then I downloaded the latest Mozilla 1. 4. I then went to terminal and ran yum install mozilla 1. 4 it said tha it installl ed it but when I open the browser it is still the 1.

I have tried everthing I could possibly think of to get a video player to work with redhat 9. I tried tar balls I tried rpms I bought redhat for dummies and no matter what I can't seem to get the damn thing to load.
