Yoper and menu transparency

Howdy folks I have been messin' round the last days with Yoper, and althought this distro truly rocks, there is one thing I can't get fixed: menu transparency. No matter how often I disable GUI-effects or the menu transparency itself, it get's miraculously enabled again.

i forgot my root password on my fc2 and i have important files in there, is there a way i can get back my root password without upgrading or reinstalling fc2??

disk quotas

I can't seem to get disk quotas running with Redhat9. Everytime I modify the fstab file the machine will say, during reboot, it's dropping to a shell, in which case I run init 5 and change the fstab file back to the way it was.

ok I am not crapping on Linux because I have no used it yet other than some live cd of various distros I have played with. I have a question though that I believe a lot of windows users would ask if someone suggested that they switch.

Not recognising second processor

I have just installed Fedora Core 2 on a Compaq Proliant 1600 dual P II 300 server. All seemed to go well except that I dont appear to have the second processor recognised. Is there any definitive way that I can tell whether it is and if it isnt does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this.

Hi folks , Ive been reading this board for awhile now,just became member tonight. The reason it took me so long to join is I didnt know how far Linux would go to compete with Windoze. I just installed Fedora Core 3 and I think its great !!! Ive tried Mandrake 9.

Linux equivalent of Window's C:\Program Files

Hi Totally new to Linux. Just installed FC2. Whats the Linux equivalent of Window's C:\Program Files I want to install some apps but the default dir for some is the sam dir as the one where app was downloaded (desktop for example).

When i click on a link to something to download (for example. tar,. iso,. rpm,. bin) i cant download it i get this message: /tmp/30j0mzb3. gz counld not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Grub/Windows Reinstall

Hi All! I have a bit of a problem. I am dual-booting Redhat 8. 0 and Windows 98. The Bootloader is Grub. Now, my issue is this. The Windows System had become buggered up(too many installs/uninstalls and other Windows silliness) and I would like to reinstall Windows.

Hello I installed Slackware 10. 0 with kernel 2. 4. 2 (i think?), so seeing that it was still a 2. 4. x kernel I decided to upgrade to 2. 6. 9, so I download the new kernel , compile it and install it.

reg user permission to windows mounting

I mounted my windows partition at /win. . now i want user daum to beable to look through it and what not but for some reason i can't get ti let that happen. . what do i need to do already in fstab i have users are one of the people that have permissions.

How are yah. New to linux here- When I install fedora with the wireless card in it sees it and brings up a configuration window on first boot. However, it doesn't give me the option to configure it. I think it gives me 4 options-none of which seem to work (remove, remove and don't remind, things like that).
