Fedora CD won't boot

I'm totally new to Linux, but ready to give it a try. My other computer is currently running WinXP but I'm hoping to replace it with Fedora. So, I downloaded all four ISOs of Fedora Core 2, burned their images onto four CDs, and tried booting off Disk 1.

Tried everything I can think of. Need to load windows after Mandrake 10

I have read similar posts but anything suggested in them didn't work for me. I loaded Mandrake 10 on a new PC a while back. I now want to run windows on it but try as I might, I can rid the hard drive of the MBR.

Linux on a Removable Drive

I'm new to the Linux world, so bear with me. I'm running a laptop with a removable bay that I plan on putting a hard drive into to dual boot Linux from. I know that GRUB config files are loaded onto the Linux disk, and if I remove the drive, then the computer won't boot correctly.

Hey I installed gaim package for fedora core 2, this is what gaim FAQ-ssl says that I gotta do to solve the ssl problem (connecting to msn) However I still get that error, I cant connect cause I lack support for SSL.

Mandrake 10..wont start up :(

Hey, i just installed mandrake 10 on a new partition, and it seems like everything has installed properly, yet when i get to boot magic and pick mandrake it goes to preparing machine to load mandrake linux and just sits there.

Problems installing Mandrake 10.1

I'm trying to install this for the first time as a dual boot. when i boot from the cd to install, it seems to work, but when it gets to detecting the hd it says something like connection lost. it looks as tho it cannot communicate with my drives, i have three HD's installed.

Hello all May I first thank all involved in this thread The first one I've found all morning that makes sense without blatant contradictions, It's helped me a lot. I'm hoping to install mandrake 10 (when the ISOs finnish D/Ling) dual booted with 'doze XP.

I dccided to move up to Mandrake 10, (9. 2) would lock up sometimes, So I have 10 now Instaleld Nvidia driver (in the text mode) Startx, no screens found in 9. 2 , i would have to reinsall teh driver, then startx woudl work for that session and I would have to run teh X11 config tool to set resolution for monitor a ...

Unable to boot XP after installing Mandrake

I had a 120GB hard drive with Windows XP and I decided to install Mandrake 10. 0. I created a new partition with PartitionMagic 8. 0 Then I installed Mandrake and it worked fine. I'm a real beginner with Linux and I have an annoying problem.

Tell linux to stop trying to automount my external drive on boot

I have an external usb 2. 0 drive, partitioned and mounted as follows /usb1 /usb2 /usb3 are all fat 32 partitions, on boot, it trys to mount these 3 partitions and says failed , and im thinking, well duh, the driveis only for backing up data, and its not plugged in.

I'm learned cold reboots are very bad for linux, and I got to wondering well if the power dies, im screwed, so Im looking to get a ups that will safely shutdown and power off the computer when the AC power goes out.

Hi, I have a logitech cordless keyboard/mouse set. If i boot into dos from a boot disk etc, i do seem to have keyboard and mouse support. . . (can't test it right now since my floppy seems to be not working - another story!).
