GNOME boot error

When I booted my laptop this morning and tried logging into GNOME, I got the standard blue background and xterm in a window. Just started this morning. Yesterday, I used apt-get to add a bunch of the packages I could have added on installation and didn't at the time, as well as adding Totem and the supporting RPMs.

how can i execute binaries even if i am not within the folder that contained the binary? just like my java, ican only execute java under the folder j2sdk. .

help needed using terminal

Whenever i use the terminal to compile and install source code, i get this error. configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH What do i do??.

Hi I don't have much experience using the command line, I was born too late for that. I've briefly used DOS prompt and Cygwin. I stumbled my way round the Terminal in my first few days using Red Hat.

tried this in Mandrake (in 'star'/run program/ md5sum <name> and once i pressed run nothing happened. No window opened, nothing. Help? P. S. Sry, posted originally in wrong topic. .

red hat 9 wont reboot from console

i have a red hat 9 box which i am remotely accessing using VNC, however i cannot get it to reboot using the reboot or shutdown -r commands in console. it says that the system is going down for reboot, then doesnt come back.

Hi I can't seem to get any cds to play any music using the cd player even though the cd drive and sound card are working (I can hear all the test sounds and installed Red Hat by cd). I'm running Red Hat 9.

hi maybe this is silly i dont know, ive fixed so i can mount my ntfs windows drive, but i got another partition also which i wanna mount and it says the type is Win95 Ext'd (LBA). . . how can i mount this one ? Im not sure whats up with this one 🙂I know its NTSF though.
