I have major problems. I can't install linux in gui it just goes blank after it probes the monitor which by the way can't be probed and when it is installed in text after starup and it checks the system and stuff it just goes blank.

Linux Distribution Suggestions

I'd like to know everyone's suggestion for a good Linux Distro. The main reason I'll be using it is for programming in C and C++ (for school), and for general office work, so I don't always have to boot into windows to check e-mail or use a word processor.

How do I make a boot disk in RH8?

I'm a Linux newb so bear with me. I need to know how to make a new boot disk in order for my system to switch to the new kernel (I think). I downloaded and installed every update using the RH8 update tool, and it updated my kernel too.

Nvidia drivers break Xfree 4.2.1 in debian Sid

Just thought I would give everyone a heads up on this one. If you use the nvidia drivers from nvidia and have upgraded xfree to version 4. 2. 1. . . . . Anytime you try to logout, reboot, or switch to any virtual terminal it completely freezes up your machine!!!!.

Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to get multi-PCM channel sound from a Santa Cruz / Sonic Fury sound card? This site says tis possible: I downloaded the drivers and followed the instructions given in their, however there was nothing specific on how to set it up to play more than one sound at once.

Hi all, I have recently installed RH 8 and after rebooting system hangs at Up /etc/fstab I have tried with single user mode and then tried updfstab -n and updfstab -t Both the commands completed successfully.

Ok, anyone have an in-depth guide to installing red hat (preferrably 8) on WindowsXP using Vmware? I've got the setup of Vmware down, just want to be positive i'll be installing RH8 correctly when the time comes.
