Need help setting up hardware firewall/router

I've just finished installing Fedora Core 1 (minimum install only) on an old 400MHz PC. My objective is to use this unit as a Linux Firewall and router for my office network to share the net. Because Fedora installed only the required componants to do this task, there is no graphic desktop or any other fancy stuff.

installing video card drivers

Fedora Core 2 - Unable to initiate startx

I'm gonna reference this by saying I am Linux newbie but I've been working in IT for over 10 years and know my way around a machine. I have been tinkering with Fedora Core 2 since work has us going through a class right now for it.

Linux flashing problem

Just installed Redhat 9 & all went well. Rebooted it afew times & it was fine. Now I left it running for 2 days, I turned the monitor on & it was all weird looking, with righting that wasnt English. I turned it off & left it to cool & then restarted it.

I've been toying with linux on and off for the past few years. I decided I'd finally learn it for my job and for school. I bought a new laptop and decided I would try to put Mandrake 10. 0 on there. Usually I avoid such things and put it on an older (machine which would also make me stop using linux).

Ok here's a good one to help out a newbie. I recomended to my grad school to go to open source software which they did, but they put me in charge. So keep in mind with any answer that I am a newbie and not very good with networking.

Mouse not functioning in Mandrake

I am a first time Linux user, looking to get started with this Operating System. Just sick of Windows and like the whole idea behind open source and whatnot. Anyway I installed the newest version of Mandrake that I downloaded (Version 10 Official) and have successfully started the installation program.

Question on installing icewm control panel

I went to the installation pyinstallshield or whatever, and it only opens the source code for the file, it does not run the installation. How do I install this program through the GUI?.

Linux Booting problem

Ok, I downloaded Linux Redhat 9 iso by Shrike. The problem Im getting is when I burn the cd1 image via nero, it will keep failing to boot on restart of my other pc. Now I tried to just only burn the boot.

annoyances with usb drives

I used a usb drive ONCE, and now every time i reboot, theres the icon for the drive on my desktop, reguardless if the devices is plugged in and turned on. How can I get rid of this?.

problems with ext2 usb reader/writer

When I created a persistent /home directory with the Kanotix live cd on my usb reader/writer stick, it formatted it with ext2 rather than the fat32 it came with. This is great because I much prefer ext2.
