Cannot get Java working

Hello everyone, I am trying to install Java JRE 1. 3 (also tried 1. 4) to work with my Linux 8. 0 (fresh install). Having no prior knowledge of Linux I followed the instructions provided by Sun website step-by-step.

Is WD 800BB compatible with Mandrake 9.0?

I try to install a Mandrake 9. 0 's distribution on a Linux's friendly Pc. But i don't have a centrale information: Is Western Digital Hard Drive wd 800BB compatible with this distribution? On the madrake's hardware database the WD 400BB is quoted as compatible but not the WD 800BB.

ATI - 'Mobilty Radeon M9' or 'Mobility Radeon 8500'

G'day, I recently purchased a Laptop with an 'ATI Mobility M9' graphics processor, it came with windows and i'm wanting to migrate to linux, its just so much better. . I'm trying to establish wether there is any support for my GPU, but I can't sort out what exactly my GPU is.

i am a complete newbie intrigued by Linux. I have installed Red Hat 7 and can get into the shell prompt. Xconfigurator runs but I cannot get the video configured. I Have a Hercules prophet 4500 64. At their web site I downloaded a linux driver.

video not working with Mandrake 9.1 PPC (on G4)

Hi, I am trying to get linux working on my Mac G4. 128 meg of rams with (im pretty sure) an ATI Rage 128 video card. When I boot from the CD, I am presented with the yaboot 1. 3. 9 messages. I have tried all gui installs and none of them works.

noob: downloading and installing video drivers

I am a complete noob. I have installed ret hat 7. I cannot run a graphical enviroment becausde, i assume my video card is not configured corectly. I have tried in Xconfigutator with no luck. My vid is a Hercules Prophet 4500 64.

sndconfig problems: sound only works until reboot

Hello, I've got this situation: I'm setting up the laptop of my brother to use Debian; The laptop is an Compaq Pressario 1245 which is running Debian. The problem is that sound isn't working. The laptop is not connected to internet so this email is send via another computer.

Greetings , We all know how painful is that spam thing with all the advs and all that kind of crap we don't care about for sure receiving with our other mails. Using kmail-evolution-pine or whatever , how is possible to configure spamassassin to do it's magic ? There's spamd and there's spamc.

I recently downloaded and installed Mandrake 9. 1. Akin to Mandrake 9. 0 I have had similar installation problems. I chose to install KDE and not install GNOME in both instances. I chose on several occasions Xfree4.

GRUB freezes when booting! Please help!

I am new to linux. I just installed redhat9 on a seperate disk of 30gb. Windows xp is on disk C (NTFS) (IDE) with 60gb. The installation is ok. I installed GRUB on MBR. Then reboot, only GRUB shows and freezes right there.
