Mad Penguin published a review on Slackware Linux 10.1
As many of you know, I spend most of my time buried in Linux distributions. When new software is released, I've got it and am either loving it or getting ready to smash it repeatedly with a large hammer. In other words, I've used and abused my fair share of Linux software. There's no doubt about that. The interesting thing is that no matter how many distros I use, or even how much I enjoy them, it seems I always come back to Slackware Linux. This is the distro I consider home. Many times it's where I come to regain my sanity after wading through some of the craziest programming known to man and called a Linux distribution. So why Slackware? Isn't it one of the more difficult distros to live with? Isn't it using “old” software? Doesn't the devil endorse it? Wait a minute... isn't Patrick Volkerding (Slackware creator) the devil???
First of all let can assure you Patrick is a great guy. He's definitely not the devil. I should know, after all... the devil is our sysadmin. I can also tell you I don't know the answers to all of your questions, but I am going to try to cover some of the basics here and hopefully leave you with a sense of understanding and possibly dispel some of the myths that are floating around out there regarding the oldest Linux distribution on the planet.
