the PCI_MSI option needs to be enabled in order to install the drivers. by default in slackware 12.2, and possibly older versions, this is off. set it as built-in, compile, reboot and reinstall the ati drivers. using the included 2.6.27.7 kernel is fine. enjoy! :)

also, i noticed that when using the vesa drivers colors get fscked up. i use vga console when outside X, so it doesn't bother me.
