xsane sometimes throws a fit when using the transparency unit ("failed to start scanner: error during device I/O") and scans extremely slowly (often freezes) when scanning a bunch of negatives at 1200dpi resolution. Kooka shows none of the same behavior. Scanner works great with Kooka.
