Brother has drivers for scanning. The instructions were pretty easy to follow, and after downloading it, following the solutions at the FAQ (they has specific instructions for different distributions; kudos to Brother). It worked very well. A thread at the Ubuntu forums covers this, including the links to d/l the drivers and FAQ, etc. I only use this for scanning, so I don't know how this works with printing. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=452060

I got the brother MFC 4420C used from a friend who I provide some computer support to (he was upgrading to one with a sheet feeder for the scanner/fax part). This is a USB multi-function fax/printer/scanner device. Real nice, except for one thing.

No Linux support. Period. Nada. ZIP. Nothing. I've blindly tried just about every brother printer driver I could find, hoping that it would be at least print SOMETHING. Nothing happens.

No support for scanning or fax.

Brother has not responded to my inquiries.

The annoying thing is that they've released a CUPS driver for MAC-OS, so a driver for Linux would be trivial for them to release. They don't.

I've attempted under FC4, and knoppix(debian).
