1) Solved Security Vulnerabilities

To avoid flooding mailing lists with SUSE Security Announcements for minor
issues, SUSE Security releases weekly summary reports for the low profile
vulnerability fixes. The SUSE Security Summary Reports do not list md5 sums
or download URLs like the SUSE Security Announcements that are released for
more severe vulnerabilities.

Fixed packages for the following incidents are already available on our FTP
server and via the YaST Online Update.

- webmin format string problem
A format string problem in webmin was fixed, where a remote user
could crash the webmin mini web server or even potentially execute
code.

webmin was only shipped on SUSE Linux 9.0 and 9.1.

This issue is tracked by the Mitre CVE ID CVE-2005-3912.

- otrs various problems
The CMS system OTRS was updated to the current stable release of
the particular major OTRS version shipped with SUSE Linux. This
update solves the following issues:

CVE-2005-3893: Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in index.pl
in Open Ticket Request System (OTRS) 1.0.0 through 1.3.2 and
2.0.0 through 2.0.3 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary
SQL commands and bypass authentication via the (1) user parameter
in the Login action, and remote authenticated users via the (2)
TicketID and (3) ArticleID parameters of the AgentTicketPlain action.

CVE-2005-3894: Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities
in index.pl in Open Ticket Request System (OTRS) 1.0.0 through
1.3.2 and 2.0.0 through 2.0.3 allow remote authenticated users to
inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) hex-encoded values in
the QueueID parameter and (2) Action parameters.

CVE-2005-3895: Open Ticket Request System (OTRS) 1.0.0 through
1.3.2 and 2.0.0 through 2.0.3, when AttachmentDownloadType is set to
inline, renders text/html e-mail attachments as HTML in the browser
when the queue moderator attempts to download the attachment, which
allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary web script or HTML.
NOTE: this particular issue is referred to as XSS by some sources.

2) Pending Vulnerabilities, Solutions, and Work-Arounds

- xpdf various integer overflow problems

Various integer overflows in xpdf and programs using xpdf code
potentially allows to execute arbitrary code via specially crafted
PDF files.

This is tracked by the Mitre CVE IDs CVE-2005-3191, CVE-2005-3192
and CVE-2005-3193.

Affected are the packages: xpdf, gpdf, koffice-wordprocessing,
pdftohtml, kdegraphics3-pdf, tetex, poppler, libextractor, cups on
all SUSE Linux based products.

We have finalized patches this week and have started preparing
updates.
- perl denial of service and potential code execution
perl scripts that allow user supplied format strings to printf style
perl functions can be used to either crash the perl interpreter or to
possibly execute code by preparing a specially crafted format string.

We received final patches from the perl porters team and are now
preparing updated packages.

All SUSE Linux based products are affected.

3) Authenticity Verification and Additional Information

- Announcement authenticity verification:

SUSE security announcements are published via mailing lists and on Web
sites. The authenticity and integrity of a SUSE security announcement is
guaranteed by a cryptographic signature in each announcement. All SUSE
security announcements are published with a valid signature.

To verify the signature of the announcement, save it as text into a file
and run the command

gpg --verify <file>

replacing <file> with the name of the file containing the announcement.
The output for a valid signature looks like:

gpg: Signature made <DATE> using RSA key ID 3D25D3D9
gpg: Good signature from "SuSE Security Team <security@suse.de>"

where <DATE> is replaced by the date the document was signed.

If the security team's key is not contained in your key ring, you can
import it from the first installation CD. To import the key, use the
command

gpg --import gpg-pubkey-3d25d3d9-36e12d04.asc

- Package authenticity verification:

SUSE update packages are available on many mirror FTP servers all over the
world. While this service is considered valuable and important to the free
and open source software community, the authenticity and integrity of a
package needs to be verified to ensure that it has not been tampered with.

The internal RPM package signatures provide an easy way to verify the
authenticity of an RPM package. Use the command

rpm -v --checksig <file.rpm>

to verify the signature of the package, replacing <file.rpm> with the
filename of the RPM package downloaded. The package is unmodified if it
contains a valid signature from build@suse.de with the key ID 9C800ACA.

This key is automatically imported into the RPM database (on RPMv4-based
distributions) and the gpg key ring of 'root' during installation. You can
also find it on the first installation CD and included at the end of this
announcement.

- SUSE runs two security mailing lists to which any interested party may
subscribe:
