Manjaro Linux 130 Published by

A new version of the Arch Linux based Manjaro Linux has been released

This is our second try with Xorg-Server v1.19.6. This time we also updated our Mesa-Stack and changed the handling of dri/drm. Some reported Compiz not working with this. Therefore we had it updated to the latest source currently available.

Friends of Gimp may try out the latest development edition of this fantastic graphical art app. Again we have the latest Firefox and Wine added. Also linux49 and linux414 got updated to their latest point-releases.

Current supported Kernels

linux316 3.16.51
linux318 3.18.90 [EOL]
linux41 4.1.48

Manjaro Linux is available in three editions:
Manjaro XFCE Edition (17.1.0)
Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly.

Xfce embodies the traditional UNIX philosophy of modularity and re-usability. It consists of a number of components that provide the full functionality one can expect of a modern desktop environment. They are packaged separately and you can pick among the available packages to create the optimal personal working environment.

Manjaro KDE Edition (17.1.0)
KDE is a feature-rich and versatile desktop environment that provides several different styles of menu to access applications. An excellent built-in interface to easily access and install new themes, widgets, etc, from the internet is also worth mentioning. While very user-friendly and certainly flashy, KDE is also quite resource heavy and noticably slower to start and use than a desktop environment such as XFCE. A 64 bit installation of Manjaro running KDE uses about 550MB of memory.

Manjaro GNOME Edition (17.1.0)
The GNOME Desktop Environment is being developed as part of the GNU Project, aiming to be simple and easy to use and is fully accessible. Its default display server is Wayland. While the appearance is unique it remains very customizable and a variety of extensions is available from https://extensions.gnome.org/
Like KDE it uses more resources than Xfce.
