Win4Lin Products now available for Linspire

A press release from Win4Lin:

May 31, 2005
AUSTIN, TX AND SAN DIEGO, CA – Win4Lin, a leading supplier of enterprise virtualization solutions on Linux, announced today that the company’s Win4Lin 9x and Win4Lin Home products are now compatible with Linspire Five-0 and are available in the Linspire CNR Warehouse. The company also announced that their flagship Win4Lin Pro will be available in the CNR Warehouse by mid-summer 2005.

Users are becoming increasingly frustrated with the costs, the restrictions and the lack of security in their Windows environments. Until recently, users have had to endure the shortcomings of Windows as there seemed to be no viable alternatives. Though Linux has quickly emerged as the most viable alternative to the desktop status quo, there are countless legacy Windows applications that are not available natively on Linux, and in many cases, probably never will be.

Win4Lin Home and Win4Lin 9x represent the fastest, most secure way to run these Windows applications on home, small office computers or legacy application servers.

"I talk to people every day who are anxious to start using Linux, but they want to ease into it gently and be able to run Linux while still having access to their old Windows software," said Kevin Carmony, president and CEO of Linspire, Inc. "The latest Win4Lin applications for Linspire give users the freedom to continue using their legacy Windows applications but start to migrate to the stability, security and affordability of Linspire desktop Linux."

"Linux has made great strides on the desktop in the past couple of years largely due to leaders like Linspire who have focused on the ease of use and accessibility of Linux," said Jim Curtin, CEO of Win4Lin. "Linspire Five-0, together with our Win4Lin products, offers users the perfect combination of ease of use, exciting original Linux applications as well as the essential bridge to their hard-to-replace legacy Windows applications."

Win4Lin Product Family

Products in the Win4Lin family include Win4Lin Pro™, Win4Lin 9X™, Win4Lin Terminal Server™ and Win4Lin™ Home. Win4Lin Pro provides support for Windows 2000 and Windows XP on Linux. Win4Lin 9X (formerly Win4Lin 5) provides migration support for enterprise users moving from Windows to Linux by allowing the execution of applications that cannot be ported to Linux (i.e. missing source code, too expensive) with full support for networked environments. Win4Lin Home is a lightweight version of Win4Lin 9X that provides the standalone or home user with the ability to run needed Windows applications (like Quicken® and TurboTax®) on Linux. Win4Lin Terminal Server is the company’s enterprise solution for delivering Windows applications on thin clients via a Linux server.
