USN-425-1: slocate vulnerability

Posted by Bob on: 02/22/2007 03:05 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

A new slocate vulnerability update is available for Ubuntu Linux. Here the announcement:

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-425-1 February 22, 2007
slocate vulnerability
CVE-2007-0227
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D

A security issue affects the following Ubuntu releases:

Ubuntu 6.06 LTS
Ubuntu 6.10

This advisory also applies to the corresponding versions of
Kubuntu, Edubuntu, and Xubuntu.

The problem can be corrected by upgrading your system to the
following package versions:

Ubuntu 6.06 LTS:
slocate 3.0.beta.r3-1ubuntu0.1

Ubuntu 6.10:
slocate 3.1-1ubuntu0.1

In general, a standard system upgrade is sufficient to effect the
necessary changes.

Details follow:

A flaw was discovered in the permission checking code of slocate. When=20
reporting matching files, locate would not correctly respect the parent=20
directory's "read" bits. This could result in filenames being displayed=20
when the file owner had expected them to remain hidden from other system=20
users.
