Gerben Geeraerts posted a review on Ubuntu Linux 10.04

Before we actually begin with reviewing the latest version of Ubuntu read the following. You may skip it, but it can be interesting.

The machine I used for this review and that I’m going to use to work on Ubuntu is a rather “old” machine. Yes, it is on purpose. Why? Well I wanted to see for myself if Ubuntu can make your pc faster. I have always believed in the fact that Linux is a great way to keep your old computers still in use. This one was suffering with daily tasks, startup was taking its time and you could just feel the computer was slowly dying. Before this test and review, there was a fully updated Windows XP running with the average everyday programs installed. I was planning on letting it slowly die day per day untill Ubuntu had sent me a copy of their latest 10.04 version. So I took a backup of my beloved data that was still on there and installed Ubuntu as a fresh, clean install, running as the main OS.

The machine has the following specs: Pentium Core 2 Duo 3.00Ghz – 1Gb Memory – ASUS Nvidea 8800GT Graphics – 250Gb HDD. Standard Samsung SyncMaster 203B Monitor, Logitech 5.1 Surround System.
