rPath's rBuilder Named 'Best Grid Computing Solution' at LinuxWorld

A press release from rPath:

Raleigh, NC (Aug 22, 2006) – rPath, provider of the first platform for creating and maintaining Linux software appliances, today announced that its flagship product, rBuilder, received the LinuxWorld Product Excellence Award for Best Utility Grid Computing Solution. rPath solutions were also recognized as finalists in the Best Virtualization Solution and Best Open Source Solution categories.

The LinuxWorld Product Excellence Awards honor product and service innovations and excellence by exhibitors at LinuxWorld. Awards were presented on Wednesday, August 16 at LinuxWorld Open Solutions Summit in San Francisco.

Grid computing offers lower operational costs by allowing companies to deploy applications across any number of commodity systems. However, modifications or upgrades to the grid infrastructure can result in significant costs to update each application running on the grid.

“rBuilder’s virtualization support allows organizations to package their applications as virtual appliances -- decoupling the application from the underlying grid infrastructure. Virtual appliances are the ideal way to deploy applications in a grid environment.” said Marty Wesley, Director of Product Marketing for rPath. “We are honored that LinuxWorld recognizes rBuilder as an innovative solution for grid computing.”

This is the second time rPath has been honored by LinuxWorld. rBuilder won Best Systems Management Tool and rBuilder Online was a finalist for Best Virtualization Solution at LinuxWorld Boston in April 2006.
