Preview of Upgrade Procedure to Progeny Debian 2.0 RC2

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 01/21/2005 05:32 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Progeny's Jeff Licquia has published a preview of the upgrade process from Progeny Debian 2.0 RC1 to Progeny Debian 2.0 RC2

When we released Progeny Debian 2.0 RC1, we promised that users would be able to upgrade all the way to the final release from RC1 or later.

Because of a serious bug in RC1's cl-tools, this is not an entirely straightforward process. As a result, we have written a script which should work around the problems people are likely to see when upgrading, and have come up with an upgrade procedure for users of RC1. We'd like this procedure to be well-tested, so we are releasing it early.

Currently, our procedure will upgrade you to the development components in their current state. If you're not comfortable following our development components before RC2, you should probably wait for our announcement of the RC2 release, and follow the procedure we provide then.

This should work for plain vanilla RC1, RC1 plus apt-devel packages, or RC1 plus Debian sarge packages. Users who have upgraded to unstable may have some difficulties. As before, we do not support upgrades to unstable, but we are interested in hearing about the difficulties unstable users see.
