openSUSE 10.3 Beta3

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 09/06/2007 04:27 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

openSUSE 10.3 Beta3 has been released:

It's my pleasure to announce the availability of openSUSE 10.3 Beta3. This is the last beta release before entering RC phase in two weeks. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to this release of openSUSE!

Important Changes Since Beta2
=============================
* Kernel 2.6.22.5
* libzypp 3.22.1
* improved package lists of 1-CD GNOME and KDE
* countless bug fixes in every component
* reworked concept of language bundles (bundle-lang-* and -lang packages)

A more detailed list of changes is available via http://en.opensuse.org/Factory/News ;.

Most Annoying Bugs
==================
* Registration starts full package management stack - which takes _AGES_ (zypp cache is not copied from the RAM disk) [#304310]
* 10.2 -gt; 10.3 Update: pattern:zmd cannot be installed due to missing dependencies [#307743]
(To work around this bug, make sure to explicitly refresh/update all patterns on upgrades)
* kdepim3: various regressions around POP3 [#307040 and others] -gt; online update for Beta3 pending
* setfont breaks first Xserver start [#302010] -gt; online update for Beta3 pending
* grub entry for booting windows vista is missing [#307802]

We'll keep http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs_10.3_dev updated as we go.

Call for Testing
================
If you want to help testing our standard test cases, please coordinate with others and subscribe to opensuse-testing! (http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate/Mailinglists)

If you want to help with organized testing, the following topics should be your main focus:

* libzypp:
- Online Updates with KDE GNOME openSUSE updater
- Update from old distros
- using different external repositories
- also notice: http://en.opensuse.org/Libzypp/Testsuite
* language support: try to install and use your language
* 1-Click-Installation from software.openSUSE.org
* your $favorite_application!

Media and Download
==================
openSUSE 10.3 Beta3 for i386, x86-64 and ppc is available as different media
sets:
* 1 DVD containing OSS and NonOSS software
languages supported: English, Portuguese, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Chinese (Simpl. Trad.), Japanese, Russian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Finnish, Danish, Swedish, Dutch
* 1 CD with a default KDE installation (not for ppc, English-only)
* 1 CD with a default GNOME installation (not for ppc, English-only)
* 1 AddOn CD with only NonOSS packages
* 1 AddOn CD with language packages that are used for extra languages (only to be used with DVDs!)
* DVD containing the sources corresponding to the media

We have created Delta ISOs from openSUSE 10.3 Beta2. Please use them for download. The DVDs and the source media are only available via bittorrent.

Please report all bugs you find on in our bugzilla as explained on http://bugs.opensuse.org, discussion is most appropriate on the opensuse-factory@xxxxxxxxxxxx mailing list.

openSUSE 10.3 Beta3 is available for immediate download from * http://software.opensuse.org/developer and * http://en.opensuse.org/Development_Version#Downloads ;(which also includes links to Delta ISOs)

Have a lot of fun,
Christoph
