Mandriva Linux 2007 Beta 3

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 09/01/2006 09:04 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Mandriva Linux 2007 Beta 3 is now available. Here the full announcement:

Still available in four different versions (KDE or GNOME, i586 or x86_64) and a Dual Architecture Installation DVD, get a closer look at the next Mandriva Linux 2007 edition.

Note that not all of the newfeatures have been implemented yet and that a beta version is notbug-proof, on the contrary. This is why we strongly encourage everyoneto test and report any bugs or surprises they may encounter.

Main changes:

WARNING: Some One CDs have non-free (proprietary) drivers included, if you do not want to use non free software, be careful to only use the ISO images with the 'free' keyword included in their name.

The non-free drivers included are intended for hardware which cannot work properly without proprietary drivers or firmware. These devices include (but are not limited to) video cards, network cards and modems. If you do not want to be obliged to use proprietary drivers to run your computer properly, you should be careful to choose hardware which is officially supported by free drivers.

Changes from 2007 beta 2
New 3D desktop support (both with AIGLX and Xgl) and new tool to configure it (drak3d)
New One CD with 3D desktop support (AIGLX and Xgl, both on KDE and Gnome, autodetection of the best 3D solution)
The new rpmdrake is now included
More applications migrated to XDG menus
GNOME 2.16 RC 1
Kernel 2.6.17 (based on 2.6.17.8, with ALSA 1.0.12 rc2, i965 support, and new kernel factorization: normal, enterprise and legacy)
KDE 3.5.4
New 'Ia Ora' Mandriva Theme (still only included in GNOME)
New VPN configuration tool (drakvpn)
New Firewall to configure a redundant firewall with ucarp (invictus-firewall)

Several live/install CDs versions are available:
Gnome Live CD for i586 processors and x86_64 processors
KDE Live CD for i586 processors (also works on x86_64 processors).
They are available in differente languages and to check all the version have a look on the 2007 beta release notes page

Two set of installation CDs:
3 installation CDs for i586 processors
3 installation CDs for x86_64 processors

Dual Architecture DVD:
This DVD contains both 32 and 64 bit installation and will auto-detect your processor to use the best packages for your system

You are encouraged to test and comments this beta release.
Check that all your hardware is supported.
