A press release from Mandriva:

Paris, Mexico, December 20 2006 - Mexican local office begins operations in order to offer Mandriva Linux solutions to organizations and people all over the country.

It is a fact: Mexico is joining the world's enthusiasm for open source technologies. Linux plays a key role in over 16,000 small and medium businesses in this country, and well-known Mexican corporate groups, such as Comision Federal de Electricidad (the largest supplier of electrical power), employ open source.

Recent studies show that about 34% of servers in Mexico will be Linux-based in 2009 and annual usage growth is estimated to be over 10% for upcoming years.

Surrounded by this vibrant technological environment, Mandriva, the global Linux distributor, and its local partner Datacomms-Genesys reached an agreement to establish a subsidiary company (Mandriva Mexico) which brings open source products and services closer to the Mexican market.

To achieve this goal, Mandriva Mexico outlined a strategy based on three key actions:

- The development of a nationwide support network
- Offering training events for organizations, people and associates
- Making Mandriva products available through Mexican OEMs and VARs

This approach will provide IT assets to companies, government entities and individuals who may benefit from Mandriva Linux-based tools, the availability of skilled local support and high quality training.

This announcement comes right after the release of Mandriva Linux 2007 and Corporate Server 4.0 as a reinforcement of Mandriva and Datacomms-Genesys commitment to the Mexican open source community.
