StartCom sends a press release of their third Linux distribution - StartCom MultiMedia Edition

Eilat, Israel, October 12, 2004 - Based on the stability, reliability and security of it's bigger Enterprise Server brother, StartCom released today it's third Linux distribution - StartCom MultiMedia Edition. Featuring mostly modern desktop orientated software for the home user, this release is the direct result of a market research made with teenagers, and promises fun and entertainment from the first hour on.

- In an effort to bring Linux closer to the home and desktop market, specially with the younger generation in mind, StartCom MultiMedia Edition provides a feature-rich collection of software, which is installed together with the operating system itself.
Applications for this distribution were chosen as a results from a research effort with teenagers during the months July - August 2004 made by StartCom, in order to make it attractive for the current generation of young computer users. As a result, StartCom MultiMedia Edition includes various Peer-To-Peer applications, a Multimedia Center (Xine) and DVD / CD burning tools. But also included are the Wine Windows API implementation, which allows the running of applications written for Microsoft's Windows® operating system, a point strongly mentioned during the research.
Famous communication tools, like ICQ and various messengers, but also Video conferencing applications are a must. Specially attractive is the OpenOffice suite and the Evolution Software for mail and calendar. With Mozilla and Firefox browsers, StartCom MultiMedia Edition provides (almost) everything the young people pointed out in the previously mentioned research.
All this is rounded up by some attractive eye candy's for the desktop, like OSX style starterbar, weather and pocket-watch desklets (tiny desktop applets).

- StartCom MultiMedia Edition can be downloaded for free from a download mirror or ordered as a boxed CD set from the StartCom Linux website.
