GNOME and GARNOME 2.20.0 Beta 2 released

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 08/31/2007 04:55 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

GNOME and GARNOME 2.20.0 Beta 2 are now available. Here the announcements:

GNOME 2.20.0 Beta 2

This is our eighth development release on our road towards GNOME 2.20.0, which will be released in September 2007. All new features should all be there, so your mission is simple : Go download it. Go compile it. Go test it. And go hack on it, document it, translate it, fix it.

Lots of modules have great plans for 2.19, and if you're willing to help there are many areas where that help is welcome! Don't hesitate to ask how or where you can help. If you don't even know where to start, just send a mail to our fantastic gnome-love mailing list.

To compile GNOME 2.19.91, you can use GARNOME (http://www.gnome.org/projects/garnome/, which supports users and has additional/different modules available), or the jhbuild (http://www.gnome.org/~jamesh/jhbuild.html) modulesets (which use the exact tarball versions from the official release) available at: http://download.gnome.org/teams/releng/2.19.91/

The release notes that describe the changes between 2.19.90 and 2.19.91 are available. Go read them to learn all the goodness of this release:

Note to developers:

We're now in entering the string freeze period. Read more about the various freeze periods here: http://live.gnome.org/ReleasePlanning/Freezes

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
--------------------------

This release is a snapshot of development code. Although it is buildable and usable, it is primarily intended for testing and hacking purposes. GNOME uses odd minor version numbers to indicate development status.

For more informations about 2.19, the full schedule, the official module lists and the proposed modules list, please see our 2.19 page: http://www.gnome.org/start/unstable/ or take a look at the abbreviated schedule reminder page at http://live.gnome.org/Schedule

We hope you'll love it,

The GNOME Release Team

GARNOME 2.20.0 Beta 2

The "food first" release.

We are pleased to announce the release of GARNOME 2.19.91 Desktop and Developer Platform. This release includes all of GNOME 2.19.91 plus a bunch of updates that were released after the GNOME freeze date.

This is the eighth release in the unstable cycle, with more, err... fixes added. It is for anyone who wants to get his hands dirty on the development branch, or who'd like to get a peek at future features.

With this release, GNOME entered String Freeze for 2.20, which is due September 19.

As usual, you can get the tarball directly from the gnome.org site:
http://download.gnome.org/sources/garnome/2.19/

Note: GNOME 2.19.x is an unstable branch and is assumed to be a moving target. Therefore, things in this release may not work as advertised.

If you find any issues with this release, feel free to contact the GARNOMEies in the #garnome channel on GIMPNet (irc://irc.gnome.org), where we hang out, or post to the mailing list.

More information is available at our project website:
http://www.gnome.org/projects/garnome/

Enjoy,

The GARNOME Team
