GNOME 2.24.0 Release Candidate (2.23.92) Released

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 09/11/2008 01:12 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

The GNOME 2.24.0 Release Candidate is now available. Here the full announcement:

It's the final countdown. Tadada da, tadada da da, tadada da, tadadadadada! Hrm. I might be missing a da or two. You're lucky that you can't hear me sing -- you'd be quite scared ;-) So here we are, with the release candidate for 2.24.0. It's this time of the development cycle, where we all look at what we achieved and start crying because it's so beautiful! Oh. Why are you looking at me like this? Am I really the only one doing this?

More seriously, it's also time to start to really start focusing on this list of showstoppers Andre sent:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2008-September/msg00071.html

Remember that the hard code freeze starts next Monday!

You can also help Davyd write the release notes. I'm sure he'd welcome some help!

You all know what you have to do now. Go download it. Go compile it. Go test it. And go hack on it, document it, translate it, fix it.

To compile GNOME 2.23.92, you can use GARNOME [1] (which supports users and has additional/different modules available), or the jhbuild [2] modulesets [3] (which use the exact tarball versions from the official release):

The release notes that describe the changes between 2.23.91 and 2.23.92 are available. Go read them to learn all the goodness of this release:

TESTING! TESTING! TESTING!
--------------------------

This release is a feature, user interface and string frozen snapshot primarily intended for wide public scrutiny before the final GNOME 2.24 release in September. GNOME uses odd minor version numbers to indicate development status.

For more information about 2.23, the full schedules and the official modules list, please see our 2.23 page:
http://www.gnome.org/start/unstable/

Also take a look at the abbreviated schedule reminder page at: http://live.gnome.org/Schedule

We hope you'll love it,

The GNOME Release Team
