DSA 727-1: New libconvert-uulib-perl packages fix arbitrary code exe

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 05/20/2005 12:33 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

New libconvert-uulib-perl packages are available for Debian GNU/Linux

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Debian Security Advisory DSA 727-1 security@debian.org
http://www.debian.org/security/ Martin Schulze
May 20th, 2005 http://www.debian.org/security/faq
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Package : libconvert-uulib-perl
Vulnerability : buffer overflow
Problem-Type : local (remote)
Debian-specific: no
CVE ID : CAN-2005-1349

Mark Martinec and Robert Lewis discovered a buffer overflow in Convert::UUlib, a Perl interface to the uulib library, which may result in the execution of arbitrary code.

For the stable distribution (woody) this problem has been fixed in version 0.201-2woody1.

For the testing (sarge) and unstable (sid) distributions this problem has been fixed in version 1.0.5.1-1.

We recommend that you upgrade your libconvert-uulib-perl package.

Upgrade Instructions
---------------------

wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the footer to the proper configuration.
