DSA 1968-1: New pdns-recursor packages fix potential code execution

The Debian Security Team published a new security update for Debian GNU/Linux. Here the announcement:

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Debian Security Advisory DSA-1968-1 security@debian.org
http://www.debian.org/security/ Florian Weimer
January 08, 2010 http://www.debian.org/security/faq
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Package : pdns-recursor
Vulnerability : several
Problem type : remote
Debian-specific: no
CVE Id(s) : CVE-2009-4009 CVE-2009-4010

It was discovered that pdns-recursor, the PowerDNS recursive name
server, contains several vulnerabilities:

A buffer overflow can be exploited to crash the daemon, or potentially
execute arbitrary code (CVE-2009-4009).

A cache poisoning vulnerability may allow attackers to trick the
server into serving incorrect DNS data (CVE-2009-4010).

For the old stable distribution (etch), fixed packages will be
provided soon.

For the stable distribution (lenny), these problems have been fixed in
version 3.1.7-1+lenny1.

For the unstable distribution (sid), these problems have been fixed in
version 3.1.7.2-1.

We recommend that you upgrade your pdns-recursor package.

Upgrade instructions
- --------------------

wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.
