Debian Security Advisory DSA-1650-1 security@debian.org
http://www.debian.org/security/ Moritz Muehlenhoff
October 12, 2008 http://www.debian.org/security/faq
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Package : openldap2.3
Vulnerability : denial of service
Problem type : remote
Debian-specific: no
CVE Id(s) : CVE-2008-2952
Debian Bug : 488710

Cameron Hotchkies discovered that the OpenLDAP server slapd, a free
implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, could be
crashed by sending malformed ASN1 requests.

For the stable distribution (etch), this problem has been fixed in
version 2.3.30-5+etch2.

For the unstable distribution (sid), this problem has been fixed in
version 2.4.10-3 of the openldap package.

We recommend that you upgrade your openldap2.3 packages.

Upgrade instructions
- --------------------

wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.

Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 alias etch
- -------------------------------

Stable updates are available for alpha, amd64, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390 and sparc.
