Posted by Bob on: 06/19/2008 10:25 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

The Debian Security Team published a new security update for Debian GNU/Linux. Here the announcement:

Hash: SHA1

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Debian Security Advisory DSA-1598-1 security@debian.org
http://www.debian.org/security/ Thijs Kinkhorst
June 19, 2008 http://www.debian.org/security/faq
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Package : libtk-img
Vulnerability : buffer overflow
Problem type : local (remote)
Debian-specific: no
CVE Id(s) : CVE-2008-0553

It was discovered that a buffer overflow in the GIF image parsing code
of Tk, a cross-platform graphical toolkit, could lead to denial of
service and potentially the execution of arbitrary code.

For the stable distribution (etch), this problem has been fixed in version
1:1.3-15etch2.

For the unstable distribution (sid), this problem has been fixed in
version 1:1.3-release-7.

We recommend that you upgrade your libtk-img package.

Upgrade instructions
- --------------------

wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.
