Posted by Bob on: 05/13/2007 01:00 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

The Debian Security Team published a new security update for Debian GNU/Linux. Here the announcement:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Debian Security Advisory DSA 1290-1 security@debian.org
http://www.debian.org/security/ Moritz Muehlenhoff
May 13th, 2007 http://www.debian.org/security/faq
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Package : squirrelmail
Vulnerability : missing input sanitising
Problem-Type : remote
Debian-specific: no
CVE ID : CVE-2007-1262

It was discovered that the webmail package Squirrelmail performs
insufficient sanitising inside the HTML filter, which allows the
injection of arbitrary web script code during the display of HTML
email messages.

For the oldstable distribution (sarge) this problem has been fixed in
version 1.4.4-11.

For the stable distribution (etch) this problem has been fixed in
version 1.4.9a-2.

For the unstable distribution (sid) this problem has been fixed in
version 1.4.10a-1.

We recommend that you upgrade your squirrelmail package.

Upgrade Instructions
- --------------------

wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.
