Works fine with the open source (nv) driver, though windows are slow to refresh. Installing the official nvidia driver speeds things up and opengl works fine. SLI works.

When I installed the OS and it started the X server for the first time, the screen went away in powersaving mode and there was no way to get the display back, event on the text console. I then downloaded and installed the proprietary driver from the command line in single user mode and it worked great.

This card worked great after I installed some newer drivers. I had some problems with the 6000 series drivers but the 7000 series drivers work great. I had the eVGA brand of this card.

I have used the 7600GS with Edgy and Feisty. The only thing I have had to do is install the binary drivers that come in add/remove, go through sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, fill out the details and do a restart to apply the changes. this has given me 1600x1200@75Hz on a 19" CRT, and now 1600x1200@85Hz on a 21" CRT. I have not played any games. Great site!! ed-j modfree.org

This graphics card works fine under Ubuntu linux versions 6.10 and 7.04. Monitor resolution autodetect is possible with this card (If your monitor supports this function). 3D acceleration/ 3D content creation not tested. A higher rating is reserved until this testing can be completed.

The integrated nForce2 audio is no good with Linux on my computer. Sure, the driver from nVidia, nvaudio, works perfectly, but it's still OSS! The intel-something-or-other driver sounds terrible! Every sound is delayed by a second, so videos are impossible and games are highly irritating. Pluss, if you play any prolonged sound (i.e. music or background music for a game) there is a noticeable statikey sound that can drive you nuts! The sound works fine if you settle for the OSS driver. It also workes fine on XP. :\ NOTE: Maybe this is just me, because I have heard others tell me it works just fine...

The nforce2 onboard ethernet controller works great under linux. nvidia.com's driver page has a driver for it (non-GPL). Also, there is a GPL'd reverse-engineered driver that goes by the name of forcedeth. With 2.4 and newer kernels there is a patch available which offers forcedeth to be compiled into the kernel or as a module. despite a few very minor bugs which won't affect most users, it works like a charm.

nVidia supplies a Linux driver that covers all of its graphics processors from the TNT to the GeForce 4. This driver package includes also installs OpenGL support for your card. The driver is updated somewhat regularly (not as often as the Windows drivers are).

Check the nVidia site for the drivers.
