PN672TX Cardbus 10/100 Fast Ethernet PC Card

Believe it or not, uses the tulip driver. Tulip was DEC's design, which went to Intel when the rest of DEC went to COMPAQ. It was the first ethernet chip that behaved like a proper autonomous IO channel, reading a list of instructions from shared memory. Previous ethernet chips (NE-2000, 3C509) had to be fed bytes one by one by the CPU, like giant UARTs. This card works right out of the box with a stock kernel. Ubuntu recognizes it and you're on the net. No weird Windows firmware or reverse engineered we-think-it-works-this-way stuff here. |
