To get it to shutdown properly rebuild the kernel without APIC support.
If X looks scrambled make sure you load linux passing the kernel parameter vga=791
Modem works with the HSF Modem driver from: http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/hsf/
DO NOT TRY AND SUSPEND THE COMPUTER, it will not come back from the suspend, if you do suspend it hold the power button for 5 seconds to turn off.
