Received the follow messages: 1) When trying to run Halflife and Homeworld: Cataclysm there are problems. Halflife will run for up to 30 min then the screen freezes, there's tons of hard drive activity then nothing. Doing alt-f4 then enter repeatedly does reboot, and doing ctrl-alt-del, tab twice, then enter shuts down most times. Impossible to remove game screen to see what you're doing in win2000. W2k automatically installed creative banshee drivers but Gateway doesn't provide win2000 drivers. Creative drivers work poorly on my gateway system. PIII 450, 128meg ram tower desktop system. 2) I saw the info regarding the Creative Voodoo Banshee not working correctly under W2K. I would just like to say that I ran a voodoo banshee in Windows 2000 for about 6 months and never exhibited any problems. I have an Asus A7V with 128 megs of ram. I ran Half Life, Counterstrike, and TFC the entire time and never had any of the problems that were said to have occurred in the hardware compatibility section. I used Direct3D and OpenGL. I did not use the Creative drivers in Windows 2000 for very long although they never gave me any problems. For Direct 3D I used the Windows 2000 beta drivers from the 3dfx site and they always worked fine although they were a bit slower than the reference drivers for Win9X. For OpenGL I used the "WickedGL" drivers ( http://www.wicked3d.com ) and they were VERY fast, in many instances I got framerates comparable to a TNT2 and better. I also used Smoky's voodoo overclocking utility ( http://www.voodooextreme.com/koolsmoky/v_ctrl.html )to keep my framerates up in Counterstrike I was able to set the Core & Memory to 120Mhz without ever having had a lockup though occasionaly there were small visual artifacts, but barely of notice most of the time. So I'd just like to say that yes the Creative Banshee works excellent in Windows 2000 when you use the correct drivers. Just like with the Geforce and Dets. All in all I had alot less problems with the Banshee in Windows 2000 than I did in Windows9X. In Win9X the text would corrupt often times with the reference & Creative drivers and that never happened either in Windows 2000.
