LH18A1H 18X DVD/CD Writer/Rewriter (4)

This product has been tested on the following operating systems: Fedora Core and has a average rating of 4

The last rating (4) has been submitted on 2007-02-03 13:43:40 by Anonymous running Fedora Core:
Very nice unit, very reasonable price, very pleased.

DVD+R, DVD+RW, tested under FC4, work fine with virtually no problems; other formats have yet to be tested, esp. DL.

Lightscribe function not tested - I believe lightscribe software/drivers are available for GNU/Linux from HP, but I can't be bothered to shell out for the (expensive) media.

Only issue found; standard Linux `cdrecord' tool will not play with this drive (or many/most other DVD units). Fix: use `growisofs' tool instead. Can also burn mkisofs-created ISOs - see growisofs man page. Roll on cdrecord deprecation!

Claimed performance:
DVD+R 18x; DVD+R DL 8x; DVD+RW 8x; DVD-R 18x; DVD-R DL 8x; DVD-RW 6x; DVD-RAM 12x; DVD-ROM 16x (reading); CD-R 48x; CD-RW 32x; CD-ROM 48x (reading)

Claimed format support:
DVD+R; DVD+R DL; DVD+RW; DVD+RW DL; DVD-R; DVD-R DL; DVD-RW; DVD-RW DL; DVD-RAM; DVD-ROM; DVD-Video; CD-DA; CD-ROM; Video CD; Photo CD; CD-TEXT; CD EXTRA
