LG Studioworks 700E really sucks under any distro. I tried RH7.1,RH8.0,RH9.0 and Fedora Core1.

This unit works out of the box on SuSE 8.2. I tested it with XCDroast 0.98beta14 (using cdrecord-proDVD 2.01a12). This unit can write DVD-R, -RW and -RAM. It also writes CD-RW. It read (only reads) also DVD+R, +RW.

An IDE DVD-RAM drive. Appears as a regular /dev/hdx device that can be mounted RW and written to like a regular disk, or read from like a CDROM. Can also rip audio CDs. Doesn't require SCSI emulation (as CD writers often do).

I have had some apparently spurious warnings from the kernel (particularly when a DVD-RAM cartridge is write-protected) but no data loss at all since I bought it in Aprill.
