On HP photo paper, the printer leaves evenly spaced lines on the image that are perpendicular to the direction of paper feed. One of the cures for this given on the HP website is to "calibrate the line feed". However, the Linux compatibility page on the HP website for this printer says that this function is not supported under Linux. Another unsupported function is to print a diagnostic page. (It will print a "test page" and a printhead calibration page, which are different pages then the diagnostic page.) I was able to install in the printer in Fedora Core 11 without any problems. This wide format printer will print in a wide format from Gimp, if the paper and printer settings are done correctly. You must use the page setup to define a custom paper size. However, it will not do it's advertised "13 x 19 borderless printing" with any setting that I have found. (I have not tried allowing one setting of the image to be larger than the paper size yet.) It can be made to print a nearly 13 x 19 inch image with small borders.

This is a Dutch Desktop computer that works perfect with Ubuntu linux. Even the special keys are working! However, volume of the soundcard: Intel High Definition Audio 7.1 can not be set to play music as loud as you used to, (you can listen to music, but not at maximum) because when volume is set to maximum, it makes sissy noise. Headphones are working to, if you plug them into your monitor, or back of the computer.

I am very pleased with the HP notebooks under Suse 9.3. I've had no compatibility problems and everything works well. The internal NIC is still a Broadcom, so if you're not familiar with ndiswrapper, you might have a struggle getting it to work. Other than that, everything installed fine on one, and had a monitor issue on a second. Telling X to use an LCD 1024x768x60 profile seemed to work fine, however.

If setup with Deskjet 9300 drivers works perfectly well. Paper alignment seems to be 1-2mm offset, being a very minor problem. Has easily worked with every Linux distro I tried.

I do not agree that the HP1300 works under Linux. The postscript in the printer is too old, so GNOME2 complains. "The postscript interpreter in your printer is 2014.116. This printout requires at least version 2015 or greater". HP could trivially fix this.
